We are often asked about why the volume of awards has gone down from Social Security over the past year. These statistics, recently released, are comparing April to December 2019 to April to December 2020 and they shed some light on the situation. Social Security initial disability applications are down 11.5%, and yet initial claim pending is up 26.5%. At the reconsideration level applications are down 13.7%, and yet reconsideration pending is up 49.4%. Overall awards are down 10.46%
This is evidence that Social Security has not been making decisions as readily as they have in the past and thus awards are down, and pending has increased substantially showing decisions are just not being made.
